Advice On Laptop Or Computer Monitors
A computer monitor or display is an costly product. Numerous factors are to be considered carefully before shopping for it. You’ll find different types of monitors obtainable like Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Plasma. Principal consideration ought to be the size. Size of the monitor depends on the purpose for which the computer is put to use as well as the availability of space. Monitors vary in quality and characteristics. Another critical factor is the compatibility of the new product with the existing system. This aspect is much more relevant when the consumer wants to opt for a LCD or Plasma to replace the existing CRT monitor. The new monitor may need a video card with digital video interface although attaching to the old system.
At the outset, it is much better to realize the basic characteristics of distinct varieties of monitors. CRT, the conventional 1 will have the highest contrast ratio of 20,000:1 and high response speed. But LCD is a lot more sophisticated. It’s sleek and stylish, unlike the massive CRT. LCD is significantly more energy efficient than CRT. Plasma also is sleek and compact like LCD however it will consume more energy than the LCD. As far as viewing angles are concerned plasma can be a far better choice than LCD. Once more plasma is having much better contrast ratio and response speed than LCD. However plasma suffers from burn-in difficulty which is considered as an inherent malady inside the technology. But this problem has been properly addressed by the manufacturers and modern items are practically free of charge from it.
Budget is important in the matter in this context. LCD and Plasma are much more pricey goods than CRT. Nonetheless the prices of such monitors are coming down progressively, thanks to the productivity measures adopted by the manufacturers. Of late cheaper LCD and Plasma models are also obtainable in the markets. But branded goods are qualitatively superior and they’re obviously pricey. These flat panel monitors will supply better high quality reproduction and brightness. Most of the monitors offered nowadays will have single standard VGA style connection but other options are also offered to cater the increasing demands. Extra features like inputs for S-Video, Composite, Component and HDMI. As already mentioned video card is essential to obtain compatibility. Monitors come in both standard and widescreen formats. The widescreen formats 16:9 is preferable as it will be convenient at a later stage for upgrading the computer to have HD or Blue-Ray DVD player. USB hubs, memory card readers and built-in speakers are other unique features offered inside the modern personal computer monitors.
Samsung, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple, Sony and LG are some of the well known brands of personal computer monitors obtainable within the markets. There are innumerable other brands also with multifarious designs and features. Additional layer of protection for your computer
In the desire to ensure the safety and security of his own PC, a PC user enables him to avail of the different types of software readily available in the market to use against potential harmful applications or programs that have malicious intent. Aside from the anti-virus programs and anti-malware software that one can install in their own personal computers, one may also opt to put in another program that can be used to prevent unauthorized access of programs into your computer. That program is called the firewall. Firewalls are part of one’s computer system that enables connections that are authorized by its user and at the same time blocking unauthorized forms of communications from entering the system. Firewalls can be likened to a literal wall imposed on one’s castle or home. A wall prevents incoming attackers from scaling and ravaging what the wall protects. What a computer firewall protects is the main system of software of the PC. It can also be compared to a filter, because a firewall filters connections and communications using settings that the user chooses to his choice. A firewall can be customized according to the PC user’s inclinations, and he or she may prefer to block only a particular amount of connections, or just allow a handful of communications from entering the system. Most of the time, firewalls are used in order to prevent unauthorized persons to access the PC. Some mal intent internet users would try and connect themselves to other PCs and networks for various purposes like obtaining valuable information, hacking, installation of harmful programs, identity theft, and so on. That is why one can encounter a message saying that one cannot access the internet or the network due to a firewall. Most companies and individuals that adhere to internet security would rather limit the access to the internet than risk being open to hacking and other form of online threats. A firewall can be either be a software or hardware, depending on your preference. Most effective firewalls can be downloaded over the internet, and one can choose from a wide number of firewall developers that offer these products. Reviews from critics and fellow end users could be extremely valuable in choosing which one to obtain. It’s also important to choose a firewall that is not only protecting against incoming threats but also from outgoing ones as well. Another crucial factor is to not purchase a pirated version of these firewalls, and these programs cannot update it from the latest threats coming from the World Wide Web. Constant updating of the firewall program is best done, just like the way one has to update his virus definitions for antivirus programs. Using two firewalls at the same time is also not recommended, as problems in compatibility may arise and thus render those firewalls useless if not destructive.
An installation of firewalls and a smart, careful way of using them, alongside other preventive programs would indeed help in protecting one’s PC from harmful threats. Protect your Computer Today! A Little Vintage Computer Monitor History
Until the early 1980s most monitors were terminals. They were boxy video display terminals (VDTs) combined with an attached keyboard. A terminal could be configured to work with just about any computer on the market. (Not that there was a wide selection of personal computers for you to choose from.)
Terminals were attached to computers by a serial interface. In those days, the VDT was commonly referred to as a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube).
Before DOS, the dominant operating system (OS) for 8 bit computers was CP/M (Control Program for Microprocessors). Early CP/M machines were originally designed to use separate memory-mapped video display devices and discrete keyboards that plugged into the machines not unlike video display cards used later. The most well known was the VDM-1. Terminal manufacturers recognized this lost market and began to market mainframe and mini-style terminals to the CP/M community. The sales pitch of just like a real (mainframe at the time) computer” paid off. CP/M computers soon used terminals almost exclusively.
Apple II computers and the early game machines (such as those made by Atari, Coleco or Nintendo) hooked to a monitor not a terminal. (The Apple II was built with a keyboard as part of the system. All that was missing was a monitor once the Apple II was plugged in).
These monitors unlike terminals looked like television sets without the tuner. In some cases they actually were television sets. (Many early computers such as the Commodores Vic 20, 64 and 128, could be used with any television set with a special RF adapter that hooked to the antenna of the TV).
Then IBM came out with PC-DOS computers, which were dubbed three-piece computers. One explanation according to a prominent used car dealer Moonie Bronstein was that many of the early marketers / hucksters advising the techies of the early computer era ,had their start in the competitive world of auto sales where such terms as 3 piecers and 4 piecers” were popular marketing and sales terms. Other explanations for this marketing term was because the computers included three main components i.e. the monitor, the keyboard and the CPU box”.
Ironically, when the IBM PC-DOS computers arrived on the scene with separate monitor and keyboard the monitor connected directly to the computer. Just like the earliest personal computers) through a display device connection. These new monitors used video cards that were either IBM monochrome (MDA), IBM color graphics cards9 CGA), or Hercules (the first third party ad on cards).
A few simple steps to keep your computer running fast
A few simple steps to keep your computer running fast and problem free
Software Maintenance: Just like your car your computer needs some basic maintenance. The most common problems can usually be traced to the software that is on your hard drive. We all want to keep our Computer System running quickly and at peek performance. Here are a few easy tips that will insure that your Computer continues to function properly. First and most important is that a up to date Anti Virus software, such as Symantec’s Norton Anti Virus, is installed on your Computer. Once a week the Anti Virus software should scan the entire system and make sure that no Viruses have been installed. You will also want to make sure that your Anti Virus software has the latest update. The second most important program to have installed is an Anti Spyware software. This software should also check the entire system once a week. If there has been a lot of internet activity you may want to check the system after browsing the internet. The next step to making sure that your system operates correctly is to Check for Errors on your hard drive. Simply right click your hard drive icon. Click properties, Click Tools then check for errors. You may have to shut down and restart for this application to complete. Things to remember: Always check to make sure that your Anti Virus Icon is on the task bar and is working. As soon as you believe that your software has been compromised follow the steps listed above. If they do not solve the problem then a professional should be called. Usually if the problem is caught within a few days it can be fixed without having to loose all of your data and programs. Hardware Maintenance: A majority of Hardware problems are caused by dust. Your computer case is designed to pull air from the front of the case over the motherboard and out through a fan in the rear of the case and rear of the power supply. Every three months the side of the computer case should be removed and the hardware should be cleaned of dust. The easiest method of dusting is by using a can of compressed air. The air should be sprayed on the computers heatsinc and fan, case fans, power supply fan and any other fans. You may want to check you video card as they typically have fans and are sometimes hard to see. By removing dust you will insure that heat generated from they computer is properly vented. Fan failure is typically the main cause of computer noise and power supply failure. The next cause of hardware problems is loose connections. Once a year the inside of the computer should be inspected. All cables to the hard drives, floppy drive and Optical drive should be inspected. Any add on card such as a video, sound card, modem should be checked to make sure that it is properly seated on the motherboard. It is also a good idea to make sure that the ram is making a good connection on the motherboard. Final thought: If you believe there is a problem with your computer. Backup what you can and try to fix the problem immediately or call someone who can. Most problems will not just go away they will usually get worse. 7.1 Computer Speakers – What is Dolby 7.1
When you mention computer speakers it is hard to
speak without mentioning Dolby in some way shape or form. Dolby labs
have their hands well and truly within the audio sector. Dolby has
developed some great sound reproduction methods and Dolby 7.1 is one of
them. Dolby has come up with the naming scheme of the two numbers
separated by a decimal point. The first digit represents the number of
speakers, so in this case seven speakers. The second digit represents
the one channel for the sub woofer or the bass channel.
Dolby is
the brand name for the digital surround sound that is used on
entertainment systems, televisions and computers. The point of surround
sound is to place the sound where it is supposed to be. 7.1 computer
speakers use the seven speakers to place the sounds in the right place.
The 7.1 system is sometimes called HD sound because it has appeared
with the latest HD devices such as Play station 3 and HD Televisions
but Dolby were always going to develop new sound systems regardless of
HD technology.
As with other Dolby systems the 7.1 computer
speakers work by decoding all seven channels from just the left and
right audio channels. The standard 5.1 channels that are the most
popular currently will soon be phased out by the 7.1 speakers that
offer a much better sound depth.
In order to take the two audio
signals, left and right, and turn them into surround sound is quite
difficult. Dolby are a clever bunch and they knew that in order for
their system to be accepted they needed to integrate the new surround
sound into the existing technology and so they developed it to fit with
existing two channel systems.
To understand how the system works
requires some pretty hefty mathematical technology. The standard left
and right channels are extracted as they are, no signal processing
required. The center channel is obviously the difference between the
left and right. The back speakers are a little more complicated and
require the signals to be phase shifted from the front channels by 90
degrees. Does the addition of an extra two speakers mean much better
sound? It definitely makes a difference and the sound depth is
unbelievable. The sound appears exactly where it is supposed to be.
The accuracy of sound with 7.1 computer speaker systems
is unbelievable. Be sure to pick the right speaker system so you are
not disappointed. Lots of information is available at the link, just

5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Computer Repair Service
With the creation of new machines and new methods of doing things, technology is advancing faster than what people envisioned fifty years ago. At that time, technological products stayed in the market for years before being upgraded since research and development took time.
But today, gadgets like computers are lucky to stay in production for a year. For consumers having choices is always good. But with the rate of how fast things change, is it wise to try and keep up?
Most people will say yes. Why not go with the flow if it helps your cause. Its perfectly reasonable. But if we take a closer look at our day to day activities, well surely find that most of the notions we have about computers and technology are results of believing too much what marketing ads say about these products.
Here are five reasons why getting a computer repair service is better than buying a new computer
1. Computer repair service tells you what kind of problem you are experiencing. Buying a new computer may be easier but if you encounter the same problem again and you have no idea what its all about then you’ll end up buying a new one again. This makes computer repair service a much cheaper alternative in the long run.
2. Computer manufacturers are here for the profits. More often than not, the “new models” they release are just remodeled versions of the one you just bought a few weeks ago. If you contact a computer repair service, chances are they know what components to add or fix in your computer so that it can still go head to head with the new ones.
3. Majority of the problems or glitches computers experience are fixable and don’t really need hardware replacements. Viruses and software malfunctions are the most common culprits of computer breakdowns and getting a computer repair service will fix the problem in no time.
4. Computer repair service companies are not just about repairs and fixing computer problems. They can give you information on hardware specs to meet the demands of your job or business. Computer stores will always try to sway you into buying the latest model even though its not what you really need.
5. New computers, while generally better than old models, are also “untested” when it comes to actual performance. Manufacturers have tests for sure but ultimately judgment is on the hands of the consumer.
This is where the expertise of computer repair service companies also comes in handy. Their extensive knowledge of hardware can help you set-up you new computer or give you tips on how to properly use them.
Technology is all about moving forward. It is also about finding solutions to a problem. New innovations will always be welcome. But as the saying goes, why replace something thats working properly.

5 Ideas for Safe Computer Use at Home
It used to be that one computer would take up a massive area and wouldn’t fit in the normal household. Now most people have at least one computer in their house.. If your child has access to their own or a family computer it’s important they know how to use it safely.
Children value their privacy and teenagers more so. Unfortunately, teenagers are not very good at putting safety before curiosity without strong parental guidance. As parents we do everything we can to protect our children and this has to include teaching them how to use the computer safely.
Are there any simple ways to protect your children when they are using the computer to access the internet? The following five tips will help your children be deafer when on the internet and will make you feel happier about the time they spend online.
1.Talk to your children. As a means of protecting your children from the dangers of online predators, this is one of the best. To create an atmosphere of trust at home you must talk openly and honestly to your children. You need to explain what the dangers are to your children and then agree some safety precautions they will take. Occasionally your child will break the rules. Don’t panic. Just remind them of why you have imposed your rules.
2.Keep computers where they can be seen by you. It is harder to monitor what they are seeing and doing when a child is using the computer behind bedroom doors. It’s much easier for you to keep an eye on what they are doing if it’s in a common room in the house. You can insist they keep the bedroom door open if you feel it’s alright for your child to use the computer in their bedroom, and with teenagers this is very likely. This rule on its own is probably enough to deter most children from watching something they know they shouldn’t.
3.It’s easy to get software to install so that you can monitor and control what your children do on the computer. Almost all children know how to use a computer to access the internet now. You can stop them getting access to sites which have nudity or pornography by installing the software which is now easily available. You can also install software to monitor their time online and prevent the sending, and/or receiving, of explicit material and personal information.
4.Tell your children why they shouldn’t send personal information to others. Sites such as those used for social networking, may often ask for personal details before your child can sign up to join. Online predators may have created a website so that they can get personal information from children and your child should be aware of this. Tell your children to check with you before they give out their address or name of school or other personal information on a web form.
5.Control email accounts. Email is an easy and common way for anonymous people to send pornographic images or messages. Block all but your chidrens’ friends email addresses to their address book. This is one way to prevent them receiving pornographic material.
The knowledge you can impart to your children about the dangers of being online, will have a great impact on their ability to protect themselves when they are offline too.
